The Church

The longer I’m in ministry, the more I think the church (broadly speaking) has not taken this as seriously as it ought:

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places”
(Ephesians 6:12).

“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

And as a sad result, we haven’t taken earnestly enough the admonitions to stand firm, resist the devil, and take on the full armor of God.

Yes, thankfully, Christ will still build His church and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18).

But somehow, in a way I don’t pretend to understand, I think we are openly in that spiritual battle in our days.

My perspective doesn’t mean much. But I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

The deception and division at work in so many places does not allow a different assessment.

And I think it remains to be seen whether Christians will put on the armor of God, or whether this will get much worse before it gets better.

“With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints”
(Ephesians 6:18).
